All RVers Need Reliable Connectivity

For many RVers, having reliable internet while traveling is important. You may need it to find your next campground, work from the road, stream your favorite TV shows or movies, or just to keep in touch with friends and family.

Some RVers have upgraded their setup with a WiFi extender to help amplify signals for better connectivity. However, there is also a new mobile internet service that is specifically tailored to those in rural areas or those who travel a lot. But what makes this company different from all the other internet services out there?

What is Nomad Internet?

Nomad Internet is a relatively new service that delivers high-speed internet for rural and traveling nomads. As advertised on their website, they combine all the latest technology from the major cellular providers into a single plan. Unlike many cellular plans, which only allow data to be used on your phone, Nomad Internet provides WiFi on all of your connected devices including computers, TVs, and gaming consoles.

How does Nomad Internet work?

They offer two main devices depending on your needs: hotspots and routers. Routers provide the best connectivity for home offices in rural areas. They also have battery-powered Travel Routers that can be used as mobile hotspots wherever you roam. The devices are all pre-configured and designed to be plugged in and ready for use without any major installation needed.

Their routers connect to nearby cell towers, allowing for a reliable connection anywhere you have cell service. A quick search on RV LIFE Campgrounds will tell you what the connectivity is like at each park and which networks have the best service in the area.

What internet plans do they offer?

Four color-coded plans are available, all of which are month-to-month with no contract. Each of the four colors represents a different cellular network. The plans all include 4G LTE with no data limit and can connect up to 15-250 devices.

How much does it cost?

Prices vary depending on the different membership plans and devices. The monthly rate ranges from about $99 to $129 a month in addition to a one-time membership fee.

Several reviews on their website and in this Reddit thread indicate that Nomad Internet seems to be a promising new option for RVers. Take this review for example:

“As full time RV’rs who work in the tech industry, it’s essential for us to have good connectivity wherever we are. We’re thrilled to have Nomad Internet so we can work, surf and stream without worries of throttling or limits!” – Kellyn G.

I’m missing something. How is this different from using something like a Jetpack (hotspot) from say Verizon? I know Verizon does throttle speeds on any “hotspot” device after so much data is used. That said, $99 seems a bit high when you add that to an existing mobile plan. I am not a 24/7 RVer but I do travel quite a bit pulling our teardrop and having wifi and/or good cell coverage is always important.

I had this plan and it was a pain. Horrible signal for 1 month then SIM died. Took over a month to get new SIM in part due to atrocious customer (not) service. It was literally impossible to get any human on phone. Any text or email to CS took 12 – 24 hours to respond. Had to get AMEX involved to get total refund. What a rip off. They clearly aren’t that for prime time.

We’ve had NOMAD for several years. It’s been a good experience. I use a WeBoost RV cell antenna/amplifier and the NOMAD WiFi router. Never had a major problem although sometimes the speed isn’t as fast as I’d like

I tried Nomad but they didn’t have the hardware I ordered so they sent what they had. I asked twice, seven days apart, and they didn’t know when I would get the hardware I ordered. I will be going full time soon and need this sorted out. So I asked for a return label within the 14 day trial period, which they granted.

I moved over instead to Viper Broadband, which claims to have people using 800GB+ in a month and is very strict with their hardware (to ensure the service doesn’t get shut down).

And there is a real person who answers the phone, amazing (Chris). I’ve had the hardware a week and so far so good.

Hello from Canada, Love you newsletter. Have you checked into theRVitGuy.com for roaming wireless internet yet? We used them for 4 months Dec 2019 – March 2020 from Florida to North Dakota while traveling in our Class A. We streamed TV, Netflix, Prime on 2 tv’s at a time – no lag, no slow downs, no overage charges all for $99 USD a month with a member (product) fee. I only wished it worked in Canada. I don’t get anything for sharing this information just wanted to pass it on. Thank you

Thank you. I am a Court Videographer taking videographed legal depositions. The participants; attorneys, stenographer, witness are usually at different locations. Sometimes more than two attorneys. Is this system dependable for that app? I would usually be in a location with cell service. Appreciate input.

I’m a new user and have not gone mobile yet but where my base camp is, I will have to use an additional outside “mimo” antenna.
Be prepared to purchase the antenna, connectorized cables and a antenna pole with mounting hardware of your choice for your specific needs. DO YOUR HOMEWORK.

I ordered the strong pink plan on their super deal on Father’s Day 2021. A week later I got a device. It was not the travel device that I ordered. They sent me a second one. NOPE. Wrong device again. I needed the device for a business trip especially that I was going to be on the road. I told them with a week notice that if they could not send me the correct device by the time of my travel, NOT to send the device at all. What do I get while on the road JULY 23rd? A notification that they shipped another device. I demanded a refund. They said, we’ll check our return procedures. Mind you, I never got the correct device. I never used their service. The communication with them is terrible, almost comical. Luckily I kept all communications and will be giving them to my credit card company so that they can get my money back. Stay away.

As a frequent traveler, I was excited to come across nomadinternet.com. However, after reading the article on RV Life, I was disappointed to find that the service is limited to certain areas and not available nationwide. While the pricing seems reasonable, the lack of coverage is a significant drawback for those who frequently travel outside of the service area. Additionally, the article doesn’t provide much detail on the technology or infrastructure behind the service, leaving me with questions about the reliability and speed of the internet connection. Overall, while nomadinternet.com may be a good option for some travelers, the limited coverage and lack of information make it a less appealing choice for me.
