Annually the Texas Longhorns are among the top recruiting classes in the nation. This year will be no exception with the jump over to the SEC. Currently, Steve Sarkisian’s class ranks at No. 15 overall but that doesn’t tell the whole story.

To get a better sense of where this class ranks among its peers, we should look at the average recruiting ranking. That number is based on the quality of the prospects and not the sheer number of high school prospects who pledge to a particular program.

The Notre Dame Fighting Irish, Oklahoma Sooners, and Penn State Nittany Lions all have top 10 classes based on the total points but sit outside the top 10 in terms of average rating.

Let’s dive into the numbers starting with the Ohio State Buckeyes at No. 1. These rankings are based on 247Sports team composite scores.

Average Rating: 94.92 | Total Points: 256.91

The Buckeyes check in at No. 1 on this list, despite having the second-highest number of points in 247Sports’ team composite ranking. All 13 commits are four or five-star prospects with three five-star commits total. Quite a start for this class ahead of the 2024 college football season for Ohio State.

Dan Lanning’s 2025 class is slow going with just seven commits but he has earned pleges from high-quality talent. The top commit is five-star wide receiver Dallas Wilson of Florida. The Ducks continue to show they have a national footprint with not a single commit from a high school prospect in Oregon.

When you hold a pledge from the No. 1 player in the 2025 class, your group should be among the highest-rated in college football. This class has the No. 1 quarterback and aforementioned No. 1 overall prospect, Bryce Underwood. He is joined by fellow five-star and No. 1 running back Harlem Berry. Can LSU go three-for-three with Dakorien Moore, who recently decommitted? It will be a tough battle with Ohio State and Texas jockeying for position.

Average Rating: 93.47 | Overall Points: 204.00

The Georgia Bulldogs have won two of the last three national titles and are among the best teams in college football. Their 2025 recruiting class reflects this with 10 commits and nine are five or four-star prospects. Currently, the No. 2 linebacker (Zayden Walker) and the No. 1 tight end (Elyiss Williams) are committed to the Dawgs.

Average Rating: 93.44 | Total Points: 216.98

With Nick Saban or not, this is still the Alabama Crimson Tide. A school with a history of 18 national titles is bigger than one man, even if he is the greatest coach of all time. The Tide are right back to recruiting at a high level under Kalen DeBoer. The Tide recently flipped Texas product Keelon Russell, who will likely lead this class.

Recruiting under head coach Dabo Swinney has never been an issue for the Clemson Tigers. Adding via the transfer portal has. Once again, the Tigers are among the top classes at No. 3 overall and No. 6 in average rating. Swinney recently added to the class with a pledge from four-star cornerback out of Florida, Graceson Littleton.

Coming off the worst season as a head coach, Lincoln Riley isn’t seeing it impact his recruiting. Not that 8-5 is a horrible season but he never lost more than 2 games in a season until coming to USC. Riley is once again bringing in a five-star quarterback with the commitment of Julian Lewis of Georgia. His top pledge is five-star defensive lineman Justus Terry, also from Georgia.

Average Rating: 92.14 | Total Points: 107.20

The Michigan Wolverines are one of those teams with a low overall ranking due to a smaller number of commits. However, all five commits are ranked as four-star prospects which put them in the top 10. Overall, Michigan ranks at No. 47 according to 247Sports. New head coach Sherrone Moore has plenty of work to do.

Average Rating: 91.25 | Total Points: 185.07

Texas has a higher average rank than where their total rankings have them at No. 9 compared to No. 15 overall. The class is led by standout edge commit Lance Jackson of Pleasant Grove in Texarkana, Texas. This number should climb as Texas is projected to land some top offensive talent in this year’s class. The top prospect is five-star Duncanville wide receiver, Dakorien Moore.

The Aggies overall ranking has them among the top 10 at number seven but here they are No. 10 in average prospect ranking. They have 13 pledges so far with 10 being ranked as a four-star prospect. Head coach Mike Elko is in his first offseason as the head coach with Texas A&M and he has to like the progress he is seeing.
